Our Christian Vision for our School

Our vision is rooted in the biblical quotation below, taken from the book of James:

“Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”   James 1:4

In this quote, James is telling Christians that they should see challenges and adversity as an opportunity to strengthen their faith in God and to become more “mature and complete”. This isn’t about achieving perfection or competing with others but rather simply becoming, through resilience and growth, the best and most faithful Christians they can be.

In the same way, our vision is for all members of our school community to become “mature and complete” and, through resilience and growth, to become all that they can be. This is encapsulated by the phrase:

Be all that you can be

For our pupils, being all that they can be includes, but is by no means limited to, their academic achievements and progress. We are committed to supporting the development of the ‘whole child’, with a significant focus on their character, mindset and values. This why Forest School and other opportunities such as regular performances and shows; sporting competitions and events; and the Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural development of each child, are so integral to our curriculum.

Who we are:

Ewelme Church of England (V.A.) Primary School and Pre-School is fortunate to be situated at the heart of the beautiful rural setting of South Oxfordshire, on the edge of the Chilterns AONB. As a small school, we offer a nurturing yet vibrant and inclusive environment for all, with a focus on academic progress and success but also the development of the whole children, including their mindset, character and values. We are proud of our diverse community, which includes a significant number of families from nearby RAF Benson.

What we do:

Just as Jesus had his team of friends around him, we aim to create a school family that supports and motivates every member of the community to be all that they can be. We follow an ambitious and enriched curriculum that we have carefully designed to develop in each child our school values, also known as the 5Rs:

READY

We aim to develop learners who are ready to learn, ready for the next step and stage of learning, and ready for life in modern Britain.

RESPECTFUL

We aim to develop children who respect themselves and others, are respectful of those with different beliefs and traditions to their own, respectful of the immediate, local and global environment, and who will become respectful global citizens.

RESPONSIBLE

We aim to develop children who take responsibility for their own behaviour and learning, and for looking after our environment, and who are responsible members of our local communities, and who will become responsible global citizens.

RESILIENT

We aim to develop children who are resilient to set-backs, can overcome challenges, and are resilient in their values and beliefs.

REFLECTIVE

We aim to develop children who are reflective about themselves, their own particular strengths and weaknesses and their own beliefs and values. We aim to develop children who are reflective about the world around them, reflective about how they can improve themselves and their communities.
