Kilvrough residential trip 2024

We are visiting Kilvrough Manor from Monday 5th February-Friday 9th February.

The centre address is:  Kilvrough Manor, Swansea SA3 2EE

Please check back here each evening for updates from our trip to Kilvrough Manor Outdoor Education Centre in South Wales.

MONDAY:

The coach arrived safely at the centre at approximately 11.40am. The children were organised into their dormitory groups and had time to unpack, settle in and eat their packed lunches.

They then split into their activity groups for the afternoon. They completed Team Building and problem solving activities. Dinner was fish fingers, beans and mash and the evening activity is orienteering. Tomorrow, canoeing!

All are well and having lots of fun.

TUESDAY:

AM

All the children went to bed sensibly last night and had a good night’s sleep. They have enjoyed a breakfast of cereal and toast. They’ve organised their belongings and clothes for the day and are now on their way to the canal for canoeing.

At the moment we are not sure if caving can go ahead this week as the recent rain means the river in the caves is currently too high. The instructors will make a decision later in the week about whether it is safe to go ahead. If not an alternative activity will replace caving, probably a ‘waterfall walk’.

We will update again later with some photographs from the day.

PM:

The children had fun canoeing, despite the heavy rain that set in later in the afternoon. Mrs Osborne and Mrs Lawrence decided to fully embrace the opportunity and ended up in the canal (neither can agree whose fault it was!).

Lots of great team work and communication on display in some pretty difficult conditions.

Dinner was spag bol followed by apple crumble which everyone enjoyed. This evening, the planned walk to Pennard Castle has been postponed until tomorrow due to continued heavy rain and we will instead be doing some indoors problem solving and team activities here at the manor. We will add some photos of the day later this evening or tomorrow mornings.

Wednesday:

AM

Another good night’s sleep had by all – we have been really impressed with how thoughtful and sensible they have been at bedtime and how well everyone has slept.

Last night’s problem solving and team building activities went well with some of the children in particular showing exceptional leadership skills and the group with Emilia H, Caspar, Lucy, Mason, Connor, Orlaith, Lena and Chloe being recognised by the adults from RAF Benson for their excellent communication and team work.

Find attached some photos from the canoeing, I will try and get more uploaded to the website link later today. The internet here is not very fast!

We’ve had a breakfast of bacon rolls and are now off rock climbing as the weather is forecast to be dry and climbing is much easier in dry conditions. Tomorrow will be a waterfall walk instead of caving.

PM:

A fantastic day climbing on the Gower coast. Incredible resilience shown by all to scramble down the hillside and across rock pools and then to climb a high, steep cliff face before abseiling back down again.

We rounded off the day by scrambling further down the coast and getting soaked by the crashing waves!

Dinner was roast chicken and this evening’s activity is a night walk to Pennard Castle.

THURSDAY

AM:

An amazing night walk to Pennard Castle last night followed by another good night’s sleep.

Sausage baps for breakfast this morning and now getting ready for another day of activities: today, more coastal exploration and a waterfall walk.

PM:

Today, the two groups went their separate ways with one heading for the Brecon Beacons for a waterfall walk while the others headed for Wormhead at the most westerly tip of the Gower for some coastal exploration.

Both groups had brilliant days and certainly got their 10,000 steps in (plus a fair few more!).

This evening’s dinner was Pizza and Potato Wedges and the children are now packing their suitcases ready for the return journey tomorrow.

In the morning they will bring their belongings down to a designated room ready to load the coach later and then head to the beach. They will do rockpooling and beach art, have lunch and then return to Kilvrough to return the borrowed equipment, have a snack and get ready to leave.

Departure is scheduled for 3pm meaning a return to Ewelme between 6.30 and 7pm, traffic dependent. We will keep you updated via email.
