BURGHERSH CLASS

Welcome to BURGHERSH CLASS!

Miss. Lea

Year 3/4 Teacher & SENCo

Mrs. Pearce

Teaching Assistant

Burghersh Class are taught by Miss. Lea, with TA support from Mrs. Pearce.
Mr. Ottaway also teaches Burghersh class on Tuesday mornings and Wednesdays.

Our classroom is very unusual as it is located in the almshouses, so the residents are our neighbours. We work in two rooms and have our own bathroom and kitchen!  Our two rooms mean we can work as a whole-class or in smaller groups.  The class windows overlook the cloisters and gardens on one side and the churchyard on the other. We thrive on learning in our unique surroundings.

Our topic for September is Our Village, looking at the history of Ewelme, the school and surroundings. Our books are The Lost Words, Heard it in the Playground and The Turbulent Term of Tyle Tyler. We will be studying them in English, looking at different types of poems and words, writing and performing our own poems and exploring how important the point of view is in a story. In maths this term we will be looking at addition and subtraction using different methods including column method, then moving on to multiplication and division.

Our other subjects include electricity in science, football and team games in PE (with Mrs Seymour), Worship and communion in RE and coding and online safety in computing (with Mr Ottaway). We are learning how to count and introduce ourselves and others in French, sketching and blending in art and, in Music, we are learning chords and singing songs with the ukulele. Our next topic in the spring Term will be the Ancient Egyptians.

We enjoyed Forest School this year, exploring and creating art from natural resources. We worked together to make up games, catch insects, explore the pond and  the world around us.

This was lots of fun, and has also given us many of ideas about what life might have been like in the Stone Age using natural tools. We have shown lots of resilience when the weather is cold or wet, and when we try the many new things Rachel introduces us to each week!
